I'm fat, but it's your problem not mine!

So, have you heard about the guy that is suing White Castle? No, it’s nothing like the infamous McDonalds coffee lawsuit, or the Wendy’s chili scandal. Martin Kessman, age 64 is suing White Castle Corporation because they don’t have seats large enough for him. Mr. Kessman’s local White Castle franchise, like many other fast food establishments, has adopted the fixed position style of seating in their restaurant. He claims he has been a victim of discrimination based on the America’s with Disabilities Act. Can you believe it? Keep in mind that this guy doesn’t have any kind of genetic disorder or medical problems that have caused him to be overweight. His condition is brought on solely by his habits.

That’s the problem with American’s now days. We run into one little bump in the road or a small rough patch and instead of dealing with it or just getting over it by ourselves we find someone that we can pawn the blame off on. It seems that there are a million lawsuits out there today that are filed by consumers because they want Corporate America to clue them in on the common sense things any child knows.

In Kessman’s lawsuit it says one day at his favorite White Castle he tried unsuccessfully to squeeze into one of the booths and banged his knee on a metal post in the process. If it’s his favorite restaurant and he goes there all the time, don’t you think he would notice that they were starting to get a little tight? He says that was very embarrassing for him to have to go through in a store full of customers. Well, there are pictures out on the internet Click to see of Kessman sitting in the very seats that he claims he couldn’t fit in. He is posing with a dissatisfied look on his face showing that his bell hits the edge of the table. If Martin Kessman was really so embarrassed about this happening he wouldn’t pose for pictures, agree to interviews with the press, or make a fuss about it at all. He would start to work out and change his diet in hopes to do something about his situation. Don’t you think?

Kessman is a perfect example of what our community is coming to now days. We as American’s have become very quick to take the credit, slow to accept the blame, and greedy! We are on a downward slope people, and we need to do something! If we keep it up we are going to end up with a world where no one is responsible for their own actions and that would just be complete chaos!

Kessman’s claims are based on The American’s with Disabilities Act. He says that it is the responsibility of corporations to accommodate him as well as pregnant women. (The Coming Crisis.) Should we require businesses to accommodate the extreme cases in every situation? Should all seats in every restaurant be big enough for the largest American?  Can I sue a restaurant because I’m only 5”2’ and I’m embarrassed when my feet can’t reach the floor while sitting in their chairs? These questions are ridiculous as is Mr. Kessman’s lawsuit. Heaven help us if this one makes it through the Court System!
